South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner will serve as interim athletic director at the University of South Carolina

South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner will serve as interim athletic director at the University of South Carolina. Tanner, who has been the Gamecocks' athletics director since 2012, will take over for Mike Bohn, who left to become the athletics director at the University of Southern California.

Tanner is a South Carolina graduate and was a member of the Gamecocks' 1980 College World Series championship team. He has been a part of the South Carolina athletic department for over 30 years, serving as head baseball coach from 1996-2012.

Tanner has a long and successful history with the Gamecocks

Tanner has a long and successful history with the Gamecocks. He led the baseball team to six College World Series appearances and two national championships. He was also named National Coach of the Year three times.

As athletics director, Tanner has overseen a period of sustained success for the Gamecocks. The football team has won three SEC East division titles and played in two bowl games. The men's basketball team has won two SEC Tournament championships and reached the NCAA Tournament four times.

Tanner is expected to remain in the interim role for the next six to nine months

Tanner is expected to remain in the interim role for the next six to nine months while the university conducts a national search for a permanent replacement for Bohn.

Tanner is a respected figure in the college athletics community and is well-qualified to lead the Gamecocks' athletic department during this transition period.
